Same Song, Second Verse

I love being a mom. My girls are the greatest source of pride, joy, laughter, and frustration. Being a mom the second time around is quite different than the first. Those of you who have more than one child know what I am talking about. I am much more relaxed with Ally--I know/knew that she would eventually sleep thru the night, drink from a cup, etc.

Now we are facing potty training. With Molly I sat on the hard bathroom floor 7 months pregnant for long periods of time. Pleading with this little angel to just go. She did finally get it, although I wondered if she would be the first Kindergartner in diapers. Lately Ally has started training herself. I had tried several times to no avail. But I did not worry, you see I had done this before, I knew she would get it eventually. She is scared to wear panties, but again, I am confident that when she turns 3 she will be proudly sporting her favorite Dora undies.

Ally is 2 1/2 and still uses a Paci. Only at bedtime and naptime. Uncharted territory as Molly never used one. I have been discussing with Ally that the Paci Fairy was going to come very soon and take her Paci (we only have 1 left) and leave her a special treat because she's a good girl. Here's the dilemma. We are going on vacation to Colorado next week. Should Paci Fairy come before or after vacation? I also need to consider Paci Fairy needs to find time to go shopping for special treat without Ally. Hmmmmm. Any ideas?

My sis-n-law took my niece to Build-a-bear and she paid for her bear in pacis (all of them). She did something similiar with my other niece. She took her to Walmart and she picked out a doll and then paid for the doll at the cash register with all of her pacis.

Amber has great ideas there..I was going to suggest waiting until after vacation to go there--vacations are hard enough without taking something away!!

I LOVE this post. Yes, Delaney still has a pacifier and probably will until she is almost 4 yr just like ANdrew...FOR SURE wait until after the trip...especially if it will help her sleep in a new place easier. That was such a cute idea AMber had...totally worth trying. Please...as far as potty training is going we are in the same boat...Drew was so easy...I say wait until they are ready and then by that time you can get the entire thing done in a week...so I have been told:)

Loved Amber's idea...I say wait until after vacation. Any comfort item will help!

I will agree with all on this one....wait til after!!! My # 3 is 2.1 and still uses her 'fier' at nap and bed. My 5.1 year old is struggling with his thumb....if it isn't one thing it will be another!!

Amen on the more relaxed mothering the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time around....

Ally made me remember those moments with Luke. He didn't give up his paci at bedtime until after he was 3. I tried to fight it several times and it didn't work. I will tell you that when he got to preschool he didn't want it anymore because the other kids didn't use one. Although, we bribed with toys and we also had him give his paci's away to new babies that didn't have any (only to be thrown away...of course). I will 100% agree with waiting until after vaca...or you may be searching out a CVS at 1 in the morning like we did!!

If she only uses it to sleep does it stay home? My son only used it at home to sleep, but would sleep fine elsewhere without it. We went to Disney and I kept them hidden in a bag. He only asked after we had been there 3 days. I told him we didn't have any. He did fine the whole trip, so when we pulled into the driveway I ran inside and cleaned out all the pacis while hubby played outside. That was it, he never asked again.

I vote for after vacation-it may even help with ear popping on the plane! The girls were so precious playing last night.
